Description
This beautiful rainstick is handmade in Chile from a length of naturally fallen cactus.
Once the cactus has dried, the hardened spines are pushed back through into the hollow body of the instrument. It is then filled with tiny gravel and sealed at both ends. As the rainstick is gently turned, the gravel trickles slowly through the cactus spines, creating that lovely soft, rain-like sound.
The longer the rainstick, the longer the “rainstorm”, so you can choose between the 50cm rainstick for a shorter, gentle rainfall effect, or the 100cm rainstick for a longer, deeper, more immersive rain sound.
Rainsticks are a gorgeous choice for sound sessions, meditation, relaxation, ceremony, storytelling, sensory work, or simply bringing a little weather magic indoors, without the soggy socks.
They are believed to have originated with the Aztecs, where they were traditionally used in rituals connected with calling in rain. Each one is finished with a brightly coloured strip of decorative Chilean fabric.
Available sizes: 50cm or 100cm
Diameter: approx. 5cm
Handmade in Chile and fairly traded. This is a natural handmade product, so shape and appearance may vary slightly. Cloth colour varies and is chosen at random.
