Description
At Earthtones, we’ve chosen Keith’s Cacao for every ceremony we run, as well as for our own daily cup (and even for making our own dairy-free “ice cream”!). After trying a number of ceremonial cacaos over the years, we kept coming back to Keith’s because of its exceptional quality, consistent flavour and the care taken from harvest to cup.
Whether you’re beginning your cacao journey or already leading ceremonies, this is the cacao we trust and use ourselves.

From Harvest to Heart
Ever wondered how ceremonial cacao is made? This short video follows the journey of Keith’s Cacao from the cacao trees of Guatemala to the finished blocks we use here at Earthtones
A note about the video: This film was created before the passing of Keith Wilson, founder of Keith’s Cacao. While the business has naturally evolved since then, the care, craftsmanship and ethical values shown in the video remain at the heart of Keith’s Cacao today.
Why Keith’s Cacao?
- Truly ceremonial-grade: 100% pure cacao paste made from carefully selected, minimally processed beans to preserve their natural vitality.
- Ethically sourced: Direct, long-standing relationships with indigenous growers support fair pay and community wellbeing.
- Consistent & reliable: The same smooth melt, balanced flavour and beautiful effect, bar after bar—ideal for personal practice or group ceremonies.
- Versatile: Perfect for ceremonial drinking cacao, meditation, creative work, journalling, yoga, breathwork or mindful moments.
From Tree to Cup

L-R: 1. Mahala holds a ripe cacao pod at a Cacao Farmer’s home in the jungles of Guatemala. Every block of Keith’s Cacao starts life as a ripe pod; 2. Inside the pod are the fresh cacao beans, surrounded by a naturally sweet white pulp; 3. Bags of carefully toasted and peeled cacao beans at the Keith’s Cacao workshop in San Marcos, Guatemala.
Flavour & Feel
Expect notes of dark chocolate, gentle spice and a subtle fruitiness, with a naturally creamy body when whisked. Keith’s Cacao offers a warm, steady lift—grounding yet energising—thanks to its high theobromine content and naturally occurring minerals.
Ingredients
100% pure cacao paste (nothing added). Naturally vegan and dairy-free. Free from gluten and soya. No sugar or sweeteners.
How to Prepare (1 Serving)
- Measure: 10-15g for everyday enjoyment; 28-42g for deeper ceremonial work (adjust to your sensitivity).
- Melt: Gently warm with 200–250 ml hot water or plant milk. Do not boil. (If you can’t hold you finger in the liquid for 3 seconds, it’s too hot)
- Whisk: Blend or whisk until silky.
- Personalise: Optional pinch of cinnamon, vanilla, chilli or a touch of your preferred sweetener (to sweeten, try honey, maple syrup, coconut blossom sugar – try to avoid white processed sugar if possible)
- Set an intention: Sip slowly, breathe, and allow the cacao to guide your practice.

Suggested Uses
- Morning ritual to start clear and centred
- Creative sessions and focused work
- Meditation, sound healing, breathwork and yoga
- Sharing circles and ceremonial gatherings
Storage
Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal after opening. Natural cocoa butter may bloom on the surface—this is normal and does not affect quality.
Good to Know
- Contains natural stimulants (primarily theobromine, a gentler cousin of caffeine).
- If you are pregnant, on MAOIs/SSRIs, or have a heart condition, please consult a healthcare professional before consuming ceremonial doses.
At Earthtones, we choose Keith’s Cacao for its integrity, depth and heart-centred spirit. Whether you’re just beginning your cacao journey or facilitating groups, this is a beautiful, trustworthy companion for meaningful ritual and everyday nourishment.
