Today’s mantra was a guided choice, and it is a mantra to Hanuman for protection from danger, and for additional strength, courage, stamina, wisdom, devotion and to eliminate doubt. I wasn’t sure which mantra to select today, so I asked for guidance and this is the one that came up. It obviously struck a chord because it attracted the longest list of names for the mantra box that we’ve had in a long while.
It is Hanuman’s Gayatri mantra. Gayatri mantras are like a signature mantra and most of the main deities have them, and for the most part, they follow the same structure and the same melody. Except for THE Gayatri mantra, the main one, which shares neither structure nor melody with the deity Gayatri mantras!
Hanuman is perhaps best known as the monkey king who helped Rama find and rescue his wife Sita who was kidnapped by the demon Ravanna. Hanuman flew over the land, and spotted Sita being held on the island of Lanka. Together with the other monkeys, he formed a bridge to the island for Rama and then helped defeat Ravanna’s troops, leaving Ravanna to be defeated by Rama himself.
